One day a wise teacher was talking to a group of his students. He then took a wide piece of paper and made a black circle in the center of the paper using a marker. Then, he spread the paper in front of his students and asked about what they saw.
One student immediately replied, “I saw a black dot.” “That’s right,” replied the teacher. βWhat else are you guys looking at?β Silence soon spread. “Didn’t you see anything else besides this black dot?” he asked. The students answered “no” in unison. “I’m surprised,” said the teacher again. “You guys don’t see the most important thing, which is the paper itself.”
Often times we are deceived by small disappointments and easily forget the many blessings we receive from God. Like that piece of paper, the good things in life are often easily sidelined by the misfortunes that occupy all of our attention.
Instead of focusing on the trials in life, we should start counting the blessings we have received. Count blessings and not difficulties. If we faithfully praise Him, we will not be fooled by the small “dots” that exist in life.
“You have done many things, O LORD my God, Your wonderful deeds and Your purposes for us. Nothing can compare with You! I want to proclaim and say, but the numbers are too great to be counted.”
