The Storm Is Approaching

Two men were in a small boat some distance from the coast fishing. The fish were taking bait on their hooks when they heard the roar of a storm in the distance. Looking up, they saw dark clouds billowing to the west.

One of the men ignored his friend’s suggestion that they immediately return to the inn. He insisted because he still wanted to continue fishing which would get a little more fish. “We still have enough time,” the man said. Then it happened! Suddenly they were caught in a storm.

They tried to start the boat’s engine, but failed! They tried their best to row, but it was raining and the waves tossed their little boat. After a hard struggle, they finally arrived safely on the coast. The stubborn man also apologized to his friend for ignoring his suggestion which almost cost them both lives. “I learned a valuable lesson,” the man said, “don’t delay when a storm approaches.”

Another storm is approaching, the day of judgment. Maybe that day seems far away, and we don’t feel the need to rush to prepare. We may enjoy good health and be in the prime of life. But listen, the storm may come upon us unexpectedly. Heeding God’s warnings is an act of wisdom. Have we sought refuge in God? If not, it is time to stop “fishing” and seek salvation before it is too late.
